The agenda for the next National Housing Program (NHRP) Funding Round is now available.

NHRP Agenda 2027 will guide future policy on some of Australia’s most pressing issues, including housing supply, private rental reforms, enabling infrastructure, social housing investment, and First Nations housing and homelessness. The nationally competitive funding round will invest around $3 million to help address these critical housing challenges.

The NHRP is Australia’s premier mechanism for funding, publishing and disseminating housing and homelessness research. It is managed by and jointly funded by the Australian and all state and territory governments, in partnership with a network of Australian universities.

NHRP Agenda 2027 was developed through direct consultation with government Housing Chief Executives and senior officers, the Australian Government, relevant state and territory government departments, and university partners. It uses a Policy Development Model, which integrates the traditionally separate processes of evidence building and policy development into one set of practices.

Managing Director Dr Michael Fotheringham said the applied, policy focused nature of research funded by the NHRP differentiates it from other research programs.

“and the NHRP have been building an evidence-base to support policy development for more than 25 years. Funding Round 2027 will add new, solution-oriented research to address the housing and homelessness issues confronting governments, communities and industry across Australia,” Dr Fotheringham said.

Applications for research funding are now open to AHURI’s Partner universities and close on 16 July 2026. All applications are assessed on merit by an assessment panel of policy makers and independent academics.
